"FAILURE Is Necessary for SUCCESS," iVillage President Deborah FineTells Attendees at Sold-Out Atlanta Event

PINK magazine's Conference Draws 750 Women Business Leaders

ATLANTA, September 28, 2007—The results are in: Mistakes are good, instant gratification is underrated and career boundaries are usually self-imposed. And if you really want a job, offer to sweep the floors. Those are just a few nuggets of wisdom PINK's all-star panelists shared with 750 women at the opening event of PINK magazine's annual fall conference series.

Speakers at yesterday morning's event included: Deborah Fine, president of iVillage; Pernille Spiers-Lopez, president of IKEA North America; Christine Owens, senior vice president of communications and brand management for UPS; Carrie Salone, owner and operator of two Atlanta McDonald's restaurants; and moderator Ronna Lichtenberg, author of Pitch Like a Girl: Get Respect, Get Noticed, Get What You Want.

PINK magazine, the national magazine exclusively for professional women, will present five more conferences through November in New York, D.C., San Francisco, Boston and Chicago featuring more of the most influential women in business. Upcoming event speakers include Mellody Hobson, president of Ariel Capital Management and financial contributor for Good Morning America; Hearst Magazines President Cathie Black; former Avon exec Gina Boswell; Shirley Bridges, chief information officer of Delta Air Lines and president and CEO of Delta Technology; Wachovia Senior Vice President Lynne Ford; Wal-Mart's Southeast Operations President Rosalind Brewer; CNN anchor Soledad O'Brien; and Donna Sturgess, senior vice president of innovation for GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare.

A few pieces of takeaway advice from the Atlanta panelists:

"Mistakes are such a big part of business that I have a name for them. I call them 'CE Uh-Ohs.' If you make a mistake one time, it's funny. The second time it's not cute. The third time it's a behavior pattern you need to break." —Deborah Fine

"I live by the three P's: purpose, patience and persistence. —Carrie Salone, who was turned down by McDonald's five times before getting her first restaurant

"Barriers are often self-imposed. And since you created them, you can take them away." —Pernille Spiers-Lopez

"Don't pretend you don't love to shop if you do. Instant gratification is way underrated." —Christine Owens

PINK Points: Thanks to the generosity of PINK, we raised more than $5000 for Dress for Success and Girls Inc – and plan to raise more than $25,000 during this conference series.
