"When it comes to key promotions to top-level jobs, women are kept out because of barriers around gender stereotyping."

Next 20 Female CEOs 2006: Update
By Susan Smith

For PINK's annual top women in business list, PINK named this year's top innovators.  Last year, PINK magazine and the Forté Foundation identified 20 businesswomen with CEO potential.  A year later, these women are still transforming their careers – and some have already seen the C-seat.

Sallie Krawcheck, chief financial officer and head of strategy for Citigroup Inc., was recently promoted to chairman and CEO of the company's Global Wealth Management Division.  The division includes Citigroup Private Bank, Smith Barney and Citigroup Investment Research.  Citigroup announced that Krawcheck's promotion will be effective once a successor is selected for her current position.  The company has initiated a search of internal and external candidates for the job.  Robert Druskin, chief operating officer of Citigroup, will act as an interim and oversee Global Wealth Management until Krawcheck's replacement is selected.

Carol Tomé, chief financial officer and executive vice president at The Home Depot, took on a new position at the home improvement giant in January 2007.  Tomé is now chief financial officer and executive vice president of the company's Corporate Services.

Irene Rosenfeld has also undergone some career changes.  Previously chairman and CEO at Frito-Lay, Rosenfeld was appointed chief executive officer of Kraft Foods in June 2006.

Claire Babrowski, former chief operating officer and president of RadioShack Corp., left the company in August 2006.  Babrowski was promoted to acting CEO of the company in February 2006 when David Edmondson resigned from his position as president, director and CEO of the company.  She had been with Radio Shack since July 2005.

PINK wishes all these accomplished businesswomen the best of luck in their careers!
